NEMI appoints Leon Getz as independent chair for shareholder meeting

Vancouver, BC. March 25, 2009—NEMI Northern Energy & Mining Inc. (TSX: NNE-A) today announced that is has engaged the services of Vancouver lawyer Leon Getz, QC, to serve as independent chair for its Annual and Special Meeting of shareholders next Monday (subject to shareholder approval at the Meeting).

NEMI has decided to recommend to shareholders the appointment of an independent chair for the shareholders meeting because a proxy contest has developed between the incumbent board and a dissident group,” said Patrick Devlin, NEMI’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “NEMI believes that having an independent chair will ensure that the meeting is run in a fair and evenhanded manner.

NEMI selected Mr. Getz as the independent chair, in consultation with counsel for the dissidents, because of his broad experience and excellent reputation in this role in other situations. Mr. Getz, a founding member of the Vancouver law firm Getz Prince Wells LLP, has practiced corporate and securities law since 1979 and has significant experience acting as a neutral third party in disputes.

Mr. Getz is a member of both the Domestic Commercial and Securities Panels of the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre and has acted as Chair of Hearing Panels established by the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
